Do you know how to descale a Wolf coffee machine?
My parents brought it a few years back a Wolf coffee machine and fairly recently noticed it was brewing as well as it used to be. So they tried to descale it to no avail. I have compiled a guide on how to descale your Wolf coffee machine the easy way. Stick around I’m going to share some pro tips and tricks. Let’s dive right into it.

What is a Wolf Gourmet coffee machine?
Wolf Gourmet is far from an ordinary brewer.
For decades Wolf Gourmet has created superior-quality products including coffee makers and refrigerators that are not only durable but aesthetically pleasing.
It’s made of stainless steel and it comes with a carafe which is made of stainless steel too. Its superior system shows you each time the exact amount of coffee and water you need each time to brew great coffee day in, day out.
Its double-walled thermal carafe keeps brewed coffee warm for hours and hours – you’ll forget what lukewarm coffee tastes like.
Its attached water filter blocks water minerals from slipping through your cup and spoils the taste of your coffee.
And on top of this, you’ll be aware of every step of the process as the machine displays key information about the time your last brew was completed (so you know how long it’s sitting in the carafe) and when the next cleaning cycle is needed. (Learn how to clean a farberware coffee maker)
Here’s a customer review of the Wolf coffee brewer:
My new coffee maker makes great coffee, it’s easy to set up and program each morning. I enjoy my coffee when it’s HOT – I add creamer to my morning coffee, and it cools it off too quickly. So, I end up drinking warm coffee. What I do to remedy this is to add either hot tap water or boiling water to the pot and this makes the coffee hotter, longer. Now, I’m happy

How to descale your Wolf coffee brewer?
Let’s go through the descaling process step by step:
- Take off the water tank and throw the water away into a sink
- Put the water tank back in, fill half of it with water, and add a 3.4 Wolf descaling solution
- Install the water spigot known as the spout (if you’re not sure how to install it, have a glance at the manual booklet where you’ll find step-by-step instructions) and hold a large bottle under it
- Keep in mind that you’ll be holding the bottle during the descaling process.
- Press the 3 little dots to start with the descaling
- Navigate through the menu till you come across ‘DESCALE’ and select this option. It will soon display ‘DESCALING UNDERWAY’
- You’ll need to refill the tank with about the same amount of water that was lost during the process every 30 minutes, the machine will display ‘RINSING FILL TANK’
- Once the cleaning cycle is done the display will show ‘RINSING COMPLETE’
What you should know about the Wolf descaling solution
The Wolf Gourmet descaling solution is a premium product, much like the coffee maker itself.
It’s an eco-friendly product that is about three times more effective than the average descaling product. It maintains the level of calcium of your machine to pretty good standards and it’s limescale-free, offering coffee that tastes great every single time.
The package comes with 2 packs; you only need one each time you descale your brewer.
You’ll be able to find step-by-step instructions on the package that will help you with cleaning your coffee machine.
Can you use vinegar instead of the descaling solution?
Yes, you can, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
The truth is vinegar is pretty powerful; many prefer it to a descaling product as it’s easy to find, affordable, and pretty effective.
All you need to do is mix the same amount of water with white vinegar and follow the above process.
But what if it confuses the machine and it gives it a hard time working out how to go about descaling this time? Would you risk it?
I wouldn’t personally, I’d rather pay a little bit more (the descaling product costs around $20 for 2 cycles) to be on the safe side and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
But it’s entirely up to you.
Some more descaling tips
Here’s a bunch of descaling tips:
- There’s no set time for descaling as it heavily depends on how often you brew coffee (obviously the more coffee you brew the more it will need descaling).
- The descaling process takes around 45 minutes. Consider leaning the bottle or container against somewhere, otherwise, you’ll be holding it for a long.
- The machine can operate long without descaling but it’s better to get on with it to keep brewing great coffee
- In case the descaling message keeps turning up after you’re done with the process already, go for one more descaling cycle. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
- If the descaling message comes too frequently consider changing the type of water you use; it’s wise to switch from tap water to bottled.
Let’s wrap it up
