How to use your Bloomfield coffee maker for the first time

Using a Bloomfield coffee maker is similar to the Haus Maid. If it’s the first time you’re using your Bloomfield coffee maker or simply haven’t used it for a while, follow the steps below to ensure you set up your brewer the right way:

  • The brew gasket and spray disc are placed correctly (otherwise your coffee might be leaking when it’s brewing)
  • It’s connected to the water tank properly and it’s turned on.
  • There is water in the water tank already (otherwise it will struggle to start)

Here are 3 steps to follow to start your Bloomfield brewer:

Fill the tank with water: it’s vital to fill the tank with water before you plug in the coffee maker. In case it’s not filled with water, just open the pour-over lit pour water into the filter and fill it with water (preferably bottled or filtered for better coffee).

(To make a 12-cup capacity, you’ll need 60oz of water, but if you want a 10-cup capacity you’ll need around 50oz.)

The water will soon start coming out of the brew funnel; make sure the carafe is in its place so the water drips into it. Once the machine has stopped dripping, unscrew the top cover of the brewer using a screwdriver and turn the thermostat (its job is to heat the water) clockwise towards the front of the machine (you’ll need a flathead screwdriver).

Plug the machine in: Now plug the machine in and give it about 20-30 minutes. When the green light (READY TO BREW) is on pour another water carafe in and press the ‘WARMER’ button on and you’re ready to brew your coffee.

Brew coffee with your Bloomfield: Place a Bloomfield filter (whether white or brown) and put the amount of coffee (for a 12-cup capacity you’ll need 12-24 tbsps of ground coffee), and start brewing. (A Bloomfield machine is similar to a Gourmia coffee brewer.)

Here’s a positive review of the Bloomfield coffee brewer:

Only ONE regret. Why did I ever wait to buy one of these!!! I’ve spent the equivalent amount of money on interior coffee brewers over the years. I worked in several hospitals where we made coffee in these 24/7/365 by the thousands of pots without any service or trouble, including one with hard municipal water.. A pot of delicious coffee in three minutes. Wow. About 10 minutes to warm the water up from dead cold, but much less than that to reheat the tank water after pouring in cold water for the next pot. We have HARD water. Pro – hard water makes great coffee. Con – traditional coffee brewers that pump the water through the under pot heating element makers don’t last because they clog with limescale, no matter what we’ve spent on them, and all needed cleaning with vinegar at least every week, with those machines taking 15-25 minutes to brew a pot after the first several pots, post-cleaning. Too much messing around. Too much missed coffee pleasure.

And here’s a rather critical review of Bloomfield:

This is a nice relatively compact (as these units go) coffee maker. The one big down side is that it comes with a cheap plastic filter holder rather than stainless steel. At this price point, metal should be included.

The 4 features of the Bloomfield brewer you should know

The 4 features of your brewer you should be aware of are:

1. The Ready to Brew light

When the water hits the right temperature for brewing this green light illuminates, meaning you can go ahead with your brewing. Do you know how to drain a Bunn coffee maker?

2. The thermostat

The Bloomfield thermostat with a stainless steel bulb helps us identify the temperature of the water accurately.

Brew coffee with your Bloomfield brewer in two different ways

Did you know that you can brew coffee with your Bloomfield coffee maker in 2 different ways?

Let’s go over these two ways.

1. The Pour-Over mode

Here are the steps to turn the ‘Pour-Over’ mode on:

  • Ensure that the green button (READY TO BREW) is on
  • Put the carafe in its place and make sure it sits properly (otherwise it might leak coffee)
  • Fill the tank with filtered or bottled water and place the coffee grounds in the basket.
  • When you’re done with your brewing, it’s wise to get rid of the spent grounds and filter (your next brew won’t be bitter and the coffee will taste as good as the one you just brewed).
  • If you want to do one more brew, give the machine some time till the green light goes on again.

2. The Automatic mode

Let’s have a look at the steps for brewing with the automatic mode:

  • Make sure that the green button (READY TO BREW) is switched on
  • Ensure the carafe is placed properly in its place.
  • Press the ‘BREW’ button and your Bloomfield brewer will automatically start brewing coffee.
  • It’s wise to remove the used coffee grounds and filter and keep your brewer in good condition.
