Here’s How To Plumb an Espresso Machine The Easy Way

Do you know how to plumb an espresso machine?

But why do you need to plumb one? If your machine malfunctions and it no longer brews great espresso, the odds are that’s something wrong with your machine. Stick around, in this article, I’m talking about how to fix your espresso machine to avoid drinking spoiled coffee.

Let’s kick off.

Reasons you want to plumb your machine

Let’s go over a few reasons why you probably want to plumb your machine.

Water supply

One of the most common reasons you want to plumb your espresso machine is to have a continuous water supply.

Let’s face it, who wants to fill up the machine every other espresso?

Wouldn’t be better to have a constant supply of water that saves you the job of adding water to your machine. And it’s NOT easy to refill your machine, especially if your access the water tank via its top.

I know…

I sounds like a complex (and daunting) task to plumb your machine.

But it isn’t as difficult as it sounds.

Better control of water quality

Did you know that 97% of espresso is water?

As you might have guessed using top-quality water is going to make your coffee taste x10 better.

The water should have some TDS (total dissolved solids) or mineral content to make your coffee taste better.

When the water you use for brewing is rich in hard minerals including magnesium, the chances are that it’s going to spoil the taste of your coffee.

You can check online whether the water in your area contains hard minerals over the average.

Change the performance of your machine

Another common reason to plum your machine is to improve its performance.

When did you buy your machine? Have you recently noticed that it takes longer to pull an espresso shot than usual?

You can perform what’s called preinfusion.

In plain English, preinfusion is a process that allows the coffee grounds to spread within the portafilter without needing much water. Typically, to pull an espresso a machine sprays the coffee grounds to help them saturate and then applies pressure to make coffee. This initial step makes the coffee grounds extract more coffee aroma and flavours. (Read this if your Breville brewer pressure is low).

So, when you perform preinfusion, your machine will pull great espresso without spraying the coffee grounds.

How to install an espresso machine

Have you bought an espresso machine for your cafe but you’re not sure how to install it?

Let’s get real, this task ISN’T easy. It’s more than just plugging it in which is what you do with an espresso machine we buy for our house.

It’s wise to hire an expert to do this for you as you might have run into different kinds of problems. And it’s not worth the risk especially if you have paid several thousands of dollars for it.

If you haven’t bought your machine yet, you can look for deals that include the installation, so it saves you the job of looking for a professional to hire.  But this begs the question: do built-in coffee machines worth it?

Let’s wrap it up

You know now how to plumb an espresso machine the right way. This makes you unstoppable – you can fix your machine on your own without forking out cash on hiring any specialists.
